The Youth Development Strategy 
Boys and Girls Club programs promote the development of young
people by instilling a sense of competence, a sense of usefullness,
a sense of belonging, and a sense of power or influence. When
this strategy is fully implemented, self-esteem is ehnanced and
an environment is created which helps boys and girls achieve their
full potential.

Description & Targeted Population of Our Services:
A youth development organization dedicated to promoting the health,
social, educational, vocational, and character development of
youth between the ages of 6-16. Our mission is to inspire and
enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances,
to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and
caring citizens.
In addition to the West Charlton and Graham Homes in Milledgeville,
there is a club in Jones County, Gray, Georgia, near the Alternative
School. More youth have joined the Club due to increased availability
of transportation through the school system.

Education & Career Development
(Power Hour & OEE) offers opportunities to develop basic
skills for the outdoor environment, education and work, assisting
youth in planning, encouraging, long-range and shor-range goals,
preparing youth for the working environment, and encouraging education
as well as the educating of ones on the outdoor environment. Programs
include a point system, report card check, educational lectures,
individual training and decision making, personal counseling,
school visits, reading program, setting goals, gardening, recycling,
skits, community service activities and field trips.
Power Hour provides our youth with structured homework assistance,
tutoring, and a good reading program. Our focus is to assist the
youth in the importance of setting goals, prioritizing, the importance
of obtaining an education, receiving a high school diploma as
well as seek out higher education whether on a 4 year college
level or on a technical level, which will assist in their efforts
to become productive citizens.
OUTCOMES:
- Youth set priorities.
- Youth have a positive attitude about school and their teacher.
- Youth maintain good grades.
- Youth recognize the importance of an education.
- Youth do not drop out of school.
- Youth choose not to belong gangs.
- Youth behave responsibly.
- Youth self esteem enhanced.
- Youth seek higher education beyond high school or attend a
trade school.

Outdoors Environment Education
provides activities to develop an awareness, appreciation and
knowledge of the natural environment through community beautification,
use of maps, educational lectures, and nature study.
OUTCOMES:
- Youth are knowledgeable about their surroundings, the importance
of the environment and of natural resources.
- Youth do community beautification projects such as plant trees
and gardens.
- Yout do not litter.
- Youth learn the importance of animal life.

Character & Leadership Development
aids youth in leadership skills, and encourages planning and decision-making.
Programs and activities include Keystone, Torch, and Fun Clubs,
Teen Leaders, Pen Pals, Goals for Growth, Kids for Character,
Project Learn, Community Leadership activities and field trips.
OUTCOMES:
- Youth learn about and practice leadership skills.
- Youth behave responsibly, are trustworthy, good citizens,
caring, respectful, and act fairly.
- Youth make decisions and plan activities in club meetings.
- Youth develop leadership skills & become responsible citizens.
- Youth become role models within the home, school, and or club.
- Youth through action show the importance of giving back to
the community.
- Youth set goals and strive to achieve them.

Health & Life Skills (Smart
Moves and Social Recreation) teaches youth the skills of living,
efficient use of leisure time, and communication among peers.
The program also teaches the importance of overcoming peer pressure
and making wise decisions regardless of peer pressure. Programs
include conflict resolution activities, educational lectures,
game room activities, parties, picnics, swimming, bowling, activities
that encourage socialization within and outside the Club, social
outings, and field trips such as: out to eat, to the mall, to
the movie and etc....
Smart Moves is a prevention program. This program teaches our
youth to resist peer pressures by giving them the knowledge that
is needed to assist them in their efforts to make wise decisions
in relation to gangs, alcohol, drugs, early sexual tendencies,
and prevention of child sexual abuse.
OUTCOMES:
- Youth increase their knowledge about the effects of drugs
and alcohol.
- Youth increase their knowledge about adolescents and sexuality.
- Youth increase their knowledge of good and bad touch.
- Youth learn resistance tactics related to alcohol and drug
use and sexual advances.
- Youth do not become pregnant.

Social Recreation teaches
youth skills of living, efficient use of leisure time and positive
communication among peers. This program teaches our youth to resolve
their differences in a positive way. It also gives our youth the
opportunity to socialize with their peers in an environment in
which they feel safe.
OUTCOMES:
- Youth are comfortable in diverse groups.
- Youth demonstrate skills of cooperation.
- Youth demonstrate social skills and fair play.
- Youth learn how to respectfully interact within the community.

The Arts enhances self-expression,
creativity and the development of multi-cultural appreciation
through performing arts, prevocational activities, lectures, group
sessions, talent shows, karaoke time, Ultimate Journey, chorus,
field trips and general arts & crafts projects.
OUTCOMES:
- Increased knowledge about other cultures, different beliefs
and attitudes
- Increased self-expression and creativity
- Enhanced appreciation for diverse cultures

Sports, Fitness & Recreational
Activities aide in the development of social skills, and
the development and maintenance of health and physical fitness
through activities such as recreational activities, games room,
social activities and outings, health lectures, physical fitness,
proper stretching techniques, and a variety of sports programs.
Youth will enhance versatility, work with diverse groups, and
enhance cooperative and social skills. Youth will learn to apply
"Fair Play".
OUTCOMES:
- Youth increase knowledge about the importance of being healthy
and physically fit.
- Youth increase knowledge about proper stretching techniques,
activities, rules, sports and health.
- Youth demonstrate skills and practices related to physical
activities such as proper stretching.
- Youth are healthier.
- Youth demonstrate fair play, which will reduce physical injuries.
- Youth become diverse in recreational activities.
